CPR Ad: Just 14 Senators Control Our Health Care Future
Washington, D.C. ----- Conservatives for Patients' Rights resumed an all-out assault on the government-run public option plan today with the launch of a new ad airing nationally on CNN and Fox News. The quarter-million dollar ad, which launches today and runs through December 6th, names 14 key senators who control the future of the health care debate and the direction our country will take.
"These individual senators hold the key to the fate of the public option," said Rick Scott, chairman of Conservatives for Patients' Rights. "They will decide whether America follows in the footsteps of Britain and Canada with government-run health care, or whether we reject those failed systems and focus on what Americans really want - lower health care costs. Given the news out of Britain, it's clear that government-run health care is doomed to fail."
The British government's director of Cancer Services this week revealed that "late diagnosis" by the government causes 10,000 deaths per year, despite a tripling in the funding for health care since 1997 in that country.
"The public option plan is a step toward the British government-run health care system, and it's a complete disaster, no matter how much money is thrown at the problem. These senators need to know that Americans don't want to spend $1.5 trillion (that we don't have) to create a health care system run by government bureaucrats," Scott said.
The ad makes the case that the future of the health care debate, and the type of care all Americans will receive, hinges on these 14 men and women in the Senate. The ad specifically identifies the following senators and urges viewers to call the Senate switchboard to tell these senators to vote "No" on the public option plan:
Arkansas - Lincoln and Pryor (contact)
Connecticut - Lieberman (contact)
Delaware - Carper (contact)
Indiana - Bayh (contact)
Louisiana - Landrieu (contact)
Maine - Snowe (contact)
Montana - Tester and Baucus (contact)
Nebraska - Nelson (contact)
North Dakota - Conrad and Dorgan (contact)
Virginia - Webb and Warner (contact)
Voiceover Script:
The future of every American's medical care rests with these 14 senators. Their votes on the government-run public option plan could decide whether you keep your own doctor, whether you can keep your current health insurance, whether you'll be denied life saving drugs or medical treatment. All Americans need them to stand up for patients' rights and say no to government-run health care. Tell these senators to vote "no" on the public option insurance plan.
Immediately after the voiceover, the senator's name appears on screen and viewers are urged to call the number on the screen, directed to the US senate.
