Ahead of President Obama's State of the Union address, Conservatives for Patients' Rights will launch a new national health care ad calling on Congress to "learn their lesson" from Massachusetts and drop their government-run health care plan.
"President Obama has a chance during his speech to acknowledge that his government-run health care plan was a mistake," said CPR's chairman, Rick Scott. "In doing so, he can set the tone for this Congress to abandon their current plans and focus on real reforms that will make a difference for patients and families."
The national buy on CNN and Fox News will cost just under a quarter-million dollars, and the ad will run for one week, beginning Tuesday, one day ahead of the President's speech. Set against the backdrop of the Republican election upset in Massachusetts, it points out that Bay State voters have already experienced government-run health care and rejected Congress's plan, based on media reports out of Massachusetts over the past year:
Waits to see Hub doctors grow longer (Boston Globe, 5/15/09)
"Despite Boston's abundance of top-notch medical specialists, the waits to see dermatologists, obstetrician-gynecologists, and orthopedic surgeons for routine care have grown longer - to as much as a year for the busiest doctors."

Bay State health insurance premiums highest in country (Boston Globe, 8/22/09)

Health costs to rise again (Boston Globe, 9/16/09)
"The higher insurance costs undermine a key tenet of the state's landmark health care law passed two years ago, as well as President Obama's effort to overhaul health care. In addition to mandating insurance for most residents, the Massachusetts bill sought to rein in health care costs. With Washington looking to the Massachusetts experience, fears about higher costs have become a stumbling block to passing a national health care bill."

6 hospitals to sue state over payment shortfalls (Boston Globe, 12/1/09)
"Many of the hospitals are losing money, or barely breaking even, after taking on thousands of patients newly insured by public plans under the state's 2006 health care overhaul."
