Who Decides on Health-Care Value?
Newt Gingrich and David Merritt - Wall Street Journal
What
would you think if bureaucrats confiscated your iPhone because they
decided it didn't provide enough value? State regulators may help the
federal government do just that to the health-care benefits of millions
of Americans. The most important element in implementing ObamaCare will
be the requirement for health insurers to meet what is called a medical
loss ratio. This requires health-insurance plans to split the dollars
they receive from insurance premiums into two buckets. Mo. ballot measures tests federal health care law
David Lieb - Associated Press
More
than 1 million people are expected to participate in what amounts to
the largest-ever public opinion poll on the nation's new health care
law. Missouri on Tuesday will become the first state to the test the
popularity of President Barack Obama's top policy accomplishment with a
statewide ballot proposal attempting to reject its core mandate that
most Americans have health insurance. The legal effect of Missouri's
measure is questionable, because federal laws generally supersede those
in states. But its expected passage could send an ominous political
message to Democrats seeking to hang on to their congressional majority
in this year's midterm elections.ObamaCare Means Lower Quality, Long Waits
Cal Thomas - Real Clear Politics
Senate
Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told a group of liberal activists
meeting in Las Vegas they shouldn't worry about not getting the
single-payer provision in the new health care law. "We're going to have a
public option," Reid said. "It's just a question of when." Remember the
objections conservatives and many Republicans raised during the debate
about government-run health care and the danger of eliminating private
health insurance, despite its many flaws?Scary preview of ObamaCare

Majority Leader Harry Reid told a group of liberal activists meeting in
Las Vegas they shouldn't worry about not getting a British- or
Candian-style "single-payer" health care reform. "We're going to have a
public option," Reid said. "It's just a question of when." Remember the
warnings during the ObamaCare debate about government-run health care
and the danger of eliminating private health insurance, despite its many
flaws? Britain's National Health Service (NHS) was frequently cited as
an example of where the U.S. health system might be headed -- toward
government-controlled coverage for all, with lower quality, longer waits
for major surgery and denial of care when the government decrees a
certain treatment "not cost effective."ObamaCare's Rationing Blueprint: Associated Press and Left Wing Bloggers Complete the Circle

Like
a game of three card monte, the FDA, the mainstream media and liberal

of breast cancer - sacrificing life on the rationing altar of budgetary

that patients will always lose. Three card monte is a street card game

Research
on the last seven recessions shows that small businesses generate about
two out of every three new jobs during the recovery. But this time
around the Obama administration has crippled the ability small
businesses to lead the way in new hiring with their job killing
Obamacare legislation. Not only does the bill slap small businesses with
an employment tax, new tax reporting requirements, and tons of new
regulations, but it is also an unconstitutional extension of federal
government power.Obama pumps small-business plan while ObamaCare threatens their survival
Ed Morrissey - Hot Air
The
White House has obviously become concerned enough about the narrative
that Barack Obama is hostile to business to send the President on the
road for photo ops at sub shops to talk up the administation's efforts
for small businesses. Obama tried countering the gathering consensus of
his hostility towards the private sector by pushing for Congress to
pass his proposed tax cut and credit plan while ordering a sandwich:Those peskly unintended consequences

Dent is an early victim of Obamacare. The lanky, shaven-headed machine
operator likes the medical insurance plan his employer, Acorn Signs,
provides him. But under the newly enacted Affordable Care Act, his
insurance policy will get less affordable. A provision in the law is
putting his insurance company out of business, and whatever replaces Mr.
Dent's current policy will likely be much more expensive. The way the
29-year-old sees it, Acorn Signs will have to cut benefits or cut pay.
One way or another, he figures, the switch to a new insurer will cost
him.Oh What a Tangled Web Obamacare Weaves!

Want
to see what Obamacare really looks like? Take a gander at this
dazzlingly complex chart mapping out America's new health care system
(the chart was developed by the House Joint Economic Committee). It's no
wonder that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in March said of Obamacare,
"But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it,
away from the fog of controversy." Well, the health care monstrosity
passed and we're left with a confusing fog of new government agencies,
regulations and mandates. Is there a way out of this messy maze? Yep.
Congress should repeal Obamacare forthwith.Websites help patients compare prices for health care
Jillian Berman - USA Today
As
Alan Grunberg neared 50, he knew he was going to need a colonoscopy, so
the Chicago-based Realtor began shopping around to try and find the
best place to get the procedure done. "I couldn't get anybody to give me
information on how much it was going to cost," he says, adding that his
insurance wouldn't cover the procedure. Grunberg eventually found
PriceDoc.com and received multiple quotes. "The price was outstanding,"
he says. "I jumped on it." PriceDoc is one of several sites that give
consumers the ability to shop for procedures ranging from a colonoscopy
to teeth whitening. In some cases, the sites allow consumers to
negotiate with providers.Fla. judge strikes proposed health care amendment
A
proposed constitutional amendment that would have blocked the state
from starting a health care program similar to President Barack Obama's
federal plan was removed from the ballot Thursday by a judge who said
its wording would confuse voters. Circuit Judge James Shelfer said
Amendment 9's wording could even make voters think they would never have
to wait in a doctor's office if the measure passed. State law requires
ballot summaries to be clear and accurate. The summary said the
amendment would "ensure access to health care services without waiting
lists, protect the doctor/patient relationship, guard against mandates
that don't work."
